Being Apart

I know many parents have to travel for work. Sometimes they're only gone for one night, sometimes up to a week. Rarely more than that. Whenever I talk to them about it, they (understandably) miss their kids terribly. Although I'm sure the other parent gets used to it to some degree, it's also a pretty big childcare burden, potentially for quite a long period of time.

Cecilia and Pete have only been gone for one night. Thank goodness I don't have to travel regularly for work.

Rocking the Rocking Chair

Cecilia's Flower

A couple of weeks ago Cecilia had her first unmistakable triumph of object recongnition, when she consistently looked up at "Cecilia's Flower", perched on her window sill. Since we have been here, I always take out one flower whenever I bring some home for Joanne and put it in the little bottle in her room. She has always really liked flowers, and more than once she pulled it over and made a mess in her room when one of us was showing it to her.

Now that she has incorporated pointing into her repertoire, we took this great video last night showing off her skills.

Now That's Breakfast

Cecilia has become an extremely picky eater, and she often won't eat more than a few bites of one thing. Joanne used to make fun of Ben and Jen (I never would) for feeding the boys five or six different foods in a single meal when they were this age, but look where we are now.

This was her breakfast one day the other week. That's toast, cheese (roquefort), cheerios, scrambled eggs (with more cheese) and fresh berries.

PHILLY!!!

The LuBang!s went to Philly for a little vacation last week and everybody had a great time. Joanne and I have been pretty stressed and overwhelmed lately (see last post) and this trip came just in the nick of time. This picture sums it up pretty well.

This will be a long post, so let me link to all of the pics up front. Here are some highlights of the trip.

Cecilia Makes New Friends

I think this may have been her first date...little Levon was really enamored with her.

The Zoo

Cecilia wanted to pet the ducks...

She "got" to feed the goats. I put that in quotes because it was really a classic parent moment. I gave her the pellet to feed the goat and then moved her hand to the goat's mouth. She refused to open her fist and the goat started chewing on her hand to get at it. Eventually he gave her a little bite and she cried and let go of the pellet. The best part of the story is that we didn't get a good picture of it - so I made her do it again! Was it worth it for this pic?

The zoo was great but truthfully she was much more interested in Cassie's dog than anything at the zoo. The dog was very patient and let Cecilia poke her ears and "pet" her all over. Cecilia was partly amused and partly terrified when the dog would sniff her with its big wet nose. Too bad we didn't get any pictures of that though.

Children's "Please Touch" Museum

Grandma Joined the Fun

This may have been the best part for us. We got a couple of nice hotel rooms in Center City and got to go out late and sleep in.

Ultimate!

Ok so maybe Cecilia didn't care too much about the frisbee, but she seemed to really enjoy being outside on an absolutely perfect Spring day. She crawled all around and got herself completely exhausted.

Seems like a fitting end to a great trip.

It was the best of times...

...just a friendly reminder to my future self after my brain has thoroughly whitewashed this period.

Feeding Myself!

Starting with crackers, Cecilia has begun to learn how to feed herself solid food.

She's quite pleased with herself! Here are some more pictures.

I can't believe I actually call her that...

Here's a few more.

Embarrassing Dad Videos

Joanne took some great videos the other night.

Not sure what I was thinking here...
